We are a group of 14 Englanders who plan to take on the Yukon River Quest in 2008. For those of you who haven't heard of this quest before, it is a gruelling canoe race stretching from Whitehorse to Dawson City (Yukon, Northwest territories, Canada) that totals 740KM. Obviously a trip like this requires a fair amount of planning, preparation and training before we even reach the start line! This web site will hold details about our training activities, budget and costs, equipment prior to the event and will be updated regularly. Once we have completed the event (in one piece hopefully!) we will upload many photos and stories to give those who wish to take on the challenge as much information and guidance as possible! If you take anything away from this site, I hope it is the desire to get yourself out to the Yukon to take part in this race yourself. I have canoed the Yukon river before and it was truly an amazing experience that I will never forget. The Yukon River Quest is the longest canoe and kayak race in the world The race is 740-kilometers (460-miles) in length Teams paddle round-the-clock under the midnight sun There are just two mandatory rests at Carmacks (7 hours) and Kirkman Creek (3 hours) The finishing line of the event is at the world-famous Dawson City, site of the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897-'98. In 2006 74 teams started the event, while 57 finished The course record of 40:37:05 was set in 2006 by the tandem kayak team of David Kelly and Brandon Nelson
